Urban Folk Jam- A High-Energy Fusion of Dance & Design by Shehnaaz Dance Academy & Buzy Bugs

Get ready for Bhangra Hop — a one-of-a-kind fusion program that brings together the vibrant beats of Bhangra and the dynamic style of hip hop, combining tradition and trend into one unforgettable experience! Led by Shehnaaz Dance Academy (SDA), kids will explore the roots of Bhangra, a traditional dance form from Punjab known for its joyful energy, expressive movements, and celebratory spirit. Bhangra has always been about strength, community, rhythm and its explosive footwork. Bhangra's bold moves blend perfectly with the freestyle power and swag of Hip Hop. Meanwhile, the creative magic continues with Buzy Bugs fusion craft session, where kids will design their own caps and t-shirts using inspiration from modern streetwear and Indian folk art like Warli, Gond, and Madhubani. They’ll bring tradition to trend—merging ancient patterns with bold, graphic, graffiti-inspired art styles loved by today’s generation.

Highlights:

  • High-energy Bhangra + Hip Hop choreography with a focus on rhythm, expression, and fun

  • Cultural insights into the history and meaning behind Bhangra

  • Design-your-own wearable art:

  • Students will create custom caps and t-shirts combining Indian folk motifs with urban, new-age aesthetics

  • A final performance at SDA's Winter Recital 2026 (tentatively scheduled for January 17th) where kids dance in their custom made outfits with BhangraHop swag!

    Please Note-

  • All supplies will be provided for the Buzy Bugs Cultural Exploration Class.
