Indian Dance & Paathshaala Hindi Language Classes

SDA is offering both dance lessons in Indian dance and Hindi Language at Stevens Coop this semester. Our Winter 2024 semester concludes with a 2- 2.5 minute costumed choreography and the opportunity to perform at the SDA’s Spring Showcase 2024.

Indian Dance Classes

  • Newport Campus : Tuesdays 3:30pm - 4:15pm

  • River Street Campus : Wednesdays 3:30pm - 4:15 pm

  • Garden Street Campus : Wednesdays 4:30pm - 5:15pm

Our Indian Dance lessons are a mix of Indian Folk, Semi classical and Bollywood semi -complex choreography and large group coordination, mainly aim at:

  • Bettering posture, stance and technique

  • Including semi complex legwork, spatial movement and turns

  • Focusing on transitions of positions within the routine

  • Encouraging students to work independently as well as learning the importance of teamwork

  • Awareness of movements and transitions between moves.

  • Learning the emotion of the track and basics of expression

  • Tips and tools to perform with cues from the teacher.

Bi- weekly practice videos will be provided. Students will get an opportunity to perform at SDA’s Spring Showcase 2024.


Paathshaala Hindi Language Lessons

  • Newport Campus : Fridays 3:30pm - 4:15pm

  • Garden Street Campus : Thursdays 3:30pm - 4:15pm

    Our hour long Paathshaala Hindi Lessons will aim to

    • acquaint our students with the Hindi Alphabet, words and conversational practices.

    • help students will gain knowledge through vocabulary exercises, grammar through games, poetry and prose as well as story telling.

    • encourage tracing and writing the Hindi Swar and Vyanjan and focus on mastering these by adding some at home practice. 

The study material needed for the classes will be provided. Students must bring a marble composition note book and a pencil to every class.
