SDA Adult Competition Program – Competitor Guide

Welcome to the SDA Adult Competition Program! You’re about to join a high-energy, challenging, and fun environment where you’ll grow as a dancer, performer, and teammate.

Getting Started:
Placement in the program is based on skill, experience, and commitment. Whether you’re on the Core Team or Competition Intensive, you’ll be pushed to grow, shine on stage, and perform at your best.

Training & Attendance:
Consistency matters. Attend all scheduled classes and rehearsals. If you must miss a session, email sdajc.operations@gmail.com in advance. Core Team members have additional hours and leadership responsibilities, while Intensive dancers experience fast-paced, accelerated learning.

Essentials for classes/performances:

  • SDA tee or fitted top + black athletic bottoms (no jeans!)

  • Jazz shoes (tan), white sneakers, white socks, dance knee pads (Team specific accessory instructions will be provided)

  • Personal items: water, dry snacks, and essential touch-ups

Performance Prep:
Practice outside class is key. Commit to learning new choreography, refining technique, and following your instructor’s guidance. Arrive at events in full costume and makeup as instructed, with essentials in a small labeled bag.

On Stage & Teamwork:
Bring energy, confidence, and focus. Respect instructors’ guidance, support your teammates, and embrace acting and expression in every routine. Remember, you’re representing SDA!

Health & Safety:
If you’re unwell or injured, email us immediately. Your safety always comes first.

Family & Events:
Family and friends are welcome at performances. Follow all arrival, check-in, and departure instructions carefully, and participate fully in post-event responsibilities.

Remember: This program is about growth, fun, and excellence. Push your limits, enjoy performing, and make every rehearsal and competition count!
