SDA Gives Back
In the rise of the pandemic, SDA did a number of virtual workshops dedicated solely to support and give back to our community in USA and India. Our successes at these workshops and the love from all our patrons gave birth to our new division SDA Gives Back.
Volunteering gives Team SDA a sense of purpose. The fulfilling feeling of giving back and contributing to society is unparalleled. Giving back has been a great way for SDA and its teammates to connect with others in our community and collaborate with them on causes that they hold close to their heart. If you work at or know an organization that would like to collaborate on our ‘SDA Gives Back’ program, please reach out to us via email at sdajc.operations@gmail.com. Sharing some of our past SDA community volunteering based events below-
Sandwich & Juice Drive
Location - Hoboken Shelter
Date- February 6th, 2022
On special request from one of our student families, SDA was able to set up a weekend food donation drive at the Hoboken Shelter. Nivaan Joshi and his family donated 35 sandwiches and 50 juice boxes to the shelter. We hope to make this a regular learning opportunity for all our students to be able to help those in need and work on doing good for and giving back to the community.
We thank Pooja Joshi for her kindness and initiative. We would like to give all SDA students an opportunity to go beyond dance. If you would like your child to be part of the SDA Gives Back project, reach out to us. Together, we can make a difference.
Skyway Family Success Center
Location- Zoom
Date- July 28th, 2021

SDA was super excited to create a custom dance workshop for the kids at Skyway Family Success Center. Our Teaching assistant Ms. Mahi did a fantastic job teaching the kids a run dance routine to the foot tapping number Happy. The kids loved the moves and dance games conducted.
Our SDA Gives Back initiative has helped in the creation of our SDA Mentorship program, through which our youth students will be given opportunities to educated and share awareness about the importance of dance and the sense of discipline and responsibility that it instills in our children. We are so proud of all our students and aim to provide them with multiple avenues to help them shine.

All the proceeds of this event went towards SEWA International in their campaign “Help India Defeat Covid-19”. SDA in collaboration with TangleTime with Anushya and author Shweta Ganesh Kumar, with their valiant efforts raised a total of $415.

Family BollyHIIT for the Community
Location - Zoom
Date- December 17th, 2020
Time- 4:30pm
The peak of the pandemic was clearly a challenging time for all. But for some, the challenges were insurmountable. The families served by the York Street Project are among them. As a result, the number of families coming to York Street for help had significantly increased. In short, these may be the most difficult times faced by the Project and the families they serve in their 30+ years of service. SDA wanted to ensure it could help YSP by conducting a family friendly BollyHIIT session to provide donations to purchase holiday gifts for the children and families finding support at the YSP.
Thanks to our wonderful SDA families we were able to collect a whopping $505 which were donated in time to support and share our gifts with these less fortunate children and families.
Giving Back to the Community & our Healthcare Heroes
Location - Zoom
Date- April 22nd & April 23rd, 2020
Time- 7:00pm
The peak of the Coronavirus pandemic, back in April 2020, was a traumatizing and stressful time for our healthcare workers. SDA wanted to be able to contribute in some way to help them out during their erratic work hours and long days at the hospital. We managed to organize special charity BollyHIIT and Choreography workshops via Zoom, that received a huge turnout and a ton of support from our community and team. Our teammates donated their time and money to the cause. SDA came together as a family to realize the importance of volunteering and giving back to those in need. This event was instrumental in the foundation of ‘SDA Gives Back’.
SDA managed to accumulate funds in the amount of $650. All the proceeds were donated to sending healthy and nutritious meals to healthcare workers at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre, New York and the Jersey City Medical Center, Jersey City.
