SDA Encore- Flashback with a Twist!

After a phenomenal Winter Showcase 2022, our talented performers were back with yet another spectacular Spring Showcase- SDA Encore. Bollywood from the Groovy ‘70s, the Tubular ‘80s, and the Booyah ‘90s has been remade over the years into catchy songs every generation can enjoy. Our Spring 2023 Showcase was a fun recollection of familiar tunes from our childhood, with a twist.

 Our talented performers ranged from  3 year old tiny tots who wooed the audience with their cuteness to our adult batches from Nimbus and Edgewater who wowed them with their energy and skill. Our students from all our locations (Jersey City, Edgewater and Millburn) and schools participated enthusiastically in the Showcase. SDA Encore was a perfect mix of varied dance styles that SDA specializes in. From traditional, classical styles like Bharatanatyam and Kathak, folk dances like Bhangra, semi-classical routines, soulful Contemporary, stylized Hip Hop, doses of peppy Tollywood and of course, lots of Bollywood. Each genre of dance was represented beautifully by our students.

We would like to thank all our studios - Nimbus Arts Center, Boys and Girls club, Edgewater Community Center, Bhakti Barn Yoga Studio Millburn, and Vibgyor Studios Newport. We would also like to give a shoutout to our Schools- PS16, Stevens Cooperative Schools , Waldo, Hoboken Catholic, Hoboken Charter and Tessa international for giving us an opportunity to share our passion and culture through their in-curriculum and afterschool programs. Our Showcase would be incomplete without our event  sponsors and local businesses, without whose support we would not be here, give it up for British Swim School, Park View Academy, Jam Cakery events, Global Soccer Academy and our decor sponsor Dreams Alive, who did a fantastic job, bringing in a classic Bollywood vibe on stage as well as Mother’s Day Photo Booth.

 Also a shoutout to our incredible Cultural studies and camps partner, BuzyBugs and British Swim School for treating our kids to chocolates. These memories would not have been captured so beautifully without our incredible photographer Delia from Eslatata. The finale performance of our first Showcase were our fantastic competition crew who put up their popular Dare to Dream act, which won them the Rising Star Award at Dance Pe Chance Competition 2023.

SDA Encore would have been incomplete without paying tribute to our dearest friend, dancer, photographer, confidant and cheerleader - Amrita Ghosh. SDA Company dancers ended the day by dancing to Amrita’s favorite songs to celebrate her life. We have seen your children grow tremendously not only as dancers, but as individuals. SDA is incredibly grateful for your love and trust in our team. Kudos to our entire Backstage crew, amazing SDA teachers, talented SDA Company Dancers and the entire SDA family for a stupendous Spring 2023 Showcase.
