Mile Sur Mera Tumhara: Celebrating Unity Through Dance

On June 6, 2026, our SDA stage came alive with color, culture, music, and movement as Shehnaaz Dance Academy proudly presented Mile Sur Mera Tumhara—our Spring Showcase celebrating the beauty of diversity and the power of unity. Inspired by the idea that our differences make us stronger, the showcase brought together dancers of all ages, backgrounds, and experience levels for an unforgettable evening of performance and storytelling. From regional folk traditions to contemporary interpretations, each piece reflected a unique cultural voice while contributing to a shared message: different roots, one stage.

When we decided on the theme last semester, we wanted to pay tribute to the diverse world of dance and music, and how it diminishes all divides to bring everyone together in joy. We are extremely proud to say that our show this semester reflected this very unity of spirit and celebration. We are incredibly proud of all our performers, who put their heart and soul into their performances. We are equally proud of all our teachers and choreographers who went above and beyond to bring the theme to life. We had garba combined with hip hop and rap; we had flamenco with Goan folk; from Tollywood masala to Michael Jackson and ABBA we had it all.

Our show featured folk dances from various states of India, including Kashmir, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Punjab. Of course, we never forget our classical dance forms, that form the basis of our learning.

Special mention to our first Kathak Certification batch of students who appeared for their Prarambhik Exam this year and performed a 7 min classical dance piece on our stage.

Whether it be combining different styles seamlessly in one piece, or bringing less mainstream art forms to the fore, the teachers and performers were able to bring together and celebrate the richness of culture.

We want to thank our teachers who work tirelessly for months behind the scenes to ensure that every performer is prepared to give their very best on stage, our backstage crew and volunteers, who make sure the dancers are at the right place at the right time, and our wardrobe and makeup team, who make sure everyone looks their best.

All our hard work would have been unseen but for our sponsors. Special thanks to our Platinum Sponsors Mina RX Pharmacy, British Swim School and Star Tours USA. Our Gold Sponsors UrbanStems, SparC Cricket Academy and WonderWorkz .

We would also like to mention our decor partner Dreams Alive Decor for supporting our vision, our amazing Official photographer Delia, our very Official videographer Om our incredible cultural partner BuzyBugs, for helping us with the creative props, and to MS4 and Jersey City Board of Education for the wonderful venue to showcase our vision.

Last but certainly not least, we want to thank the families of our performers for supporting us through it all, and making sure we are able to put on the best show. We could not have done it without you.
This last semester has been one of many firsts and many wins. We now plan on taking this to the next level, as we get ready for our fall semester. We look forward to having you all with us on this journey!

Thank you all once again. See you in the studio!
